Who I am…

Still Crazy After All These Years

Kerri Mackenzie
Jumping into small business ownership wasn't a big stretch for me because I came from a family of entrepreneurs.

From the time I was a little kid I watched my dad build two successful businesses. Lacking a formal education, he worked extra hard to overcome that shortcoming and to achieve the success he worked so hard to attain. I really admired my dad for his drive. His tenacity and work ethic was the model for my own career.

Following high school and very headstrong, I decided to put college on hold and enter the work force instead. Hey, what did I know!? Guess what? It didn't take long to discover that working in a department store was not very fulfilling and the pay was lousy. After a year or so, I wised up, took a job with an electronics firm, and headed back to school at night.

The years that followed kept me busy raising a family, finishing my formal education, and climbing the proverbial corporate ladder. But one night as I drove home following a casual conversation with one of my colleagues, it suddenly dawned on me that despite an impressive title and a healthy paycheck… I hated working for someone else!

Waking up to the realization that I was wasting my life caused me to step back and take a long, hard look at everything I was doing. It was time to shake things up… step out of my comfort zone and do something different.

It didn't take me long to decide. I simply followed my heart… I wanted to start a business. So I shifted into high-gear and started brainstorming… learning… planning… and finally taking action.

That was 21 years ago. The shift from employee to entrepreneur opened the doors to a whole new life…

Today, because of the Internet, I work from home and enjoy the independence and freedom I always craved. The journey is still in progress, there have been many challenges along the way, but my focus and determination remains steadfast.

Do I ever feel like quitting? Sure… sometimes. Then I think about my daughter saying to me… "Mom, I'm SO proud of you!" … and all I can think of is how to do better.

I look forward to each and every day with anticipation and excitement that only comes from doing what you love. Would I trade my online business for the 'security' of a J.O.B.? Not on your life!

Becoming an Internet entrepreneur has given life to a vision that grew out of my imagination. From creation through the day-to-day doing it, I have undergone a life-changing transformation that could only have come about by taking the road less traveled.

Nearly everything I recommend are products and services I use in my business. If they aren't useful, they don't get my stamp of approval. Period. I won't recommend anything simply for a buck.

Finally, try to remember that running a business should be fun. Choose to do for a living what you would do whether or not you were paid to do it, and you will be greatly rewarded.
